Kerschbaumeralm mountain hut celebrates 100th anniversary

The Kerschbaumeralm mountain hut in the Lienzer Dolomiten is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Originally opened on August 15, 1926, the shelter has undergone significant modernization over the last 25 years, with nearly one million euros invested in upgrades including a biological sewage treatment plant, solar energy systems, a renovated kitchen, and a two-rope pendulum cableway for supplies.

Owned by the ÖTK Lienz Section, the hut provides 30 sleeping berths and serves as a key starting point for various alpine tours, such as the Großer Törlweg and climbs toward the Spitzkofel and Seekofel. To mark the centenary, a mountain mass celebrated on September 6 will include a historical retrospective and musical performances. New operators Alexandra Heyer and Georg Oberlechner have recently taken over management of the facility.
