Kesko expands Northern European operations through automation and retail growth

Finnish retailer and wholesaler Kesko is expanding its operations through significant infrastructure investments and regional acquisitions. In Finland, the company is developing an automated foodservice logistics center in Nurmijärvi. Construction is set to begin in early 2026, with installation starting in 2028 and phased operations expected between 2029 and 2030. The facility will utilize KNAPP automation technology, including high-bay storage and goods-to-person picking, to serve the company’s hotel, restaurant, and catering business.

In the Baltic region, Kesko subsidiary Kesko Senukai has opened the largest K-rauta market in Estonia, located in Tartu. The 19,000-square-meter facility represents an investment of approximately 5.5 million euros.

Furthermore, Kesko is advancing its growth strategy in Scandinavia following the European Commission's unconditional approval of its acquisition of Dahl's activities in Sweden and Brødrene Dahl in Norway and Denmark from Saint-Gobain. The transaction, which involves business units with a combined 2025 revenue of approximately 2.1 billion euros, is expected to close by the end of 2026.
