Ketapang Port traffic jams reach 13km following driver blockade
Severe traffic congestion has paralyzed routes leading to Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, Indonesia, with vehicle queues stretching between 11 and 13 kilometers. The gridlock was triggered by a blockade by expedition drivers at the port's exit, which lasted until approximately 20:00 on a recent Saturday.
The disruption caused significant humanitarian and logistical issues. A pregnant woman, originally being referred to RSUD Blambangan, was unable to reach the hospital due to the traffic and was forced to give birth in Situbondo instead. Additionally, a vehicle transporting a deceased person from Wongsorejo to Rogojampi became trapped in the queue, requiring assistance from Banyuwangi Police to navigate an alternative route.
Travelers have also faced major setbacks, including missed train connections and delayed ferry crossings between Ketapang and Gilimanuk. PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry is working to restore normal crossing operations as authorities continue to manage the congestion.
