Ketel Marte placed on Diamondbacks injured list after unexplained absence

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has been transferred from the restricted list to the 10-day injured list following a mysterious absence from a game in Boston. Marte, a three-time All-Star, failed to report to Fenway Park on Monday despite traveling with the team, leading the organization to initially place him on the restricted list.

Following a meeting between Marte, his agent, General Manager Mike Hazen, and Manager Torey Lovullo, an MRI revealed inflammation in his left knee. Marte has since received an injection to treat the inflammation, and the team expects him to rejoin the lineup once he is healthy. Hazen described the recent meeting as “productive” but declined to provide specific details regarding the circumstances of Marte's initial absence.

The situation has caused significant tension within the organization. Manager Torey Lovullo expressed feelings of “frustration” and “betrayal” regarding the communication breakdown. This incident follows a similar occurrence last season when Marte was placed on the restricted list after traveling to the Dominican Republic during the All-Star break.

The Diamondbacks are currently in a playoff race, holding a 67-61 record and contending for the final National League wild-card spot.
