Ketel Marte returns to Diamondbacks amid viral moments
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte returned to Chase Field on Monday for a game against the Philadelphia Phillies, marking his return following a recent absence from the team. During a bullpen session on Tuesday, a 113 mph home run hit by Marte struck a grounds crew member in the head. Marte immediately stopped his practice to check on the individual, who was able to sit down and eventually shake hands with the player. No official injury has been reported.
Marte also addressed controversy regarding a hat he wore during his return, which featured the phrase “may the bridges I burn light the way.” Marte stated he was unaware of the specific meaning of the message, noting that Spanish is his first language. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo suggested the phrase might represent Marte taking accountability for recent mistakes. Marte expressed a desire to apologize to his teammates and move forward as the team competes for a wild-card spot.
