Keti Sterjova accuses Čair council of illegal street‑name changes violating Ohrid Agreement

Keti Sterjova, a member of the SDSM party on Skopje City Council, said the governing coalition altered the names of two streets in the municipality of Čair without the required Bader majority stipulated by the Ohrid Framework Agreement. She argued that the decision breaches legal procedures and the mechanisms designed to protect inter‑ethnic relations.

Sterjova claimed the streets were renamed after former UÇK members, warning that such moves could heighten ethnic tensions. She called on SDSM to demand the withdrawal of the decision, describing it as illegal and a breach of the agreement that guarantees minority rights.

The accusation targets the coalition partners VMRO and VLEN, which Sterjova says are protecting each other and ignoring the agreement’s guarantees.
