Keurig smart coffee maker consumes 1TB of data in 10 days

An IT specialist, known as Nomad, discovered that a Keurig K-Supreme SMART coffee maker consumed approximately 1 terabyte of data in just ten days. The massive volume of traffic, which included over 1,000 GB of uploads, saturated the home Wi-Fi network and caused significant connectivity issues for other devices.

While some reports suggest the activity was a software bug that could be mitigated by a reboot or moving the device to a segregated VLAN, other analyses indicate the device may have been performing metadata sniffing or collecting household data for advertising purposes. The incident has sparked discussions regarding the security and stability of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in domestic environments.
