Kevin Dahlgren's 2013 Brno family murders examined after a decade

In May 2013, American Kevin Dahlgren brutally killed five members of his extended family in Brno, Czech Republic. He stabbed his wife, two sons and two other relatives dozens of times, attempted to set the house on fire, and fled across the border to Austria before reaching the United States.

A Czech court sentenced Dahlgren to life imprisonment later that year. He remained in custody until he committed suicide in prison roughly a year and a half after the verdict. The investigation relied on forensic DNA evidence, CCTV footage, phone‑record analysis and witness testimony, creating one of the most detailed reconstructions of a crime in recent Czech history. While experts diagnosed Dahlgren with a personality disorder, they concluded he was not suffering from a mental illness that would absolve criminal responsibility. The case continues to be cited as one of the most horrific murders in the Czech Republic's modern era.
