Sunderland completes major signings of Fofana and Danso

Sunderland AFC completed two major signings on transfer deadline day, securing Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyonnais and Austrian defender Kevin Danso from Tottenham Hotspur.

Fofana’s transfer involved a high-stakes battle between Sunderland and Crystal Palace. After Arsenal withdrew from the race, Sunderland reached an agreement with Lyon for a fee of approximately €30 million plus €5 million in bonuses. The 21-year-old Belgian international is expected to sign a five-year contract.

Kevin Danso joins Sunderland on a season-long loan from Tottenham. The deal includes a conditional obligation to purchase for approximately £22.5 million to £25 million, depending on whether Sunderland maintains its Premier League status. Danso, who had requested a move to secure more playing time, has already undergone a medical.

Additionally, Sunderland submitted a late written offer for Augsburg attacker Alexis Claude-Maurice as they continue to bolster their squad.
