Minnesota Timberwolves to retire Kevin Garnett’s number 21

The Minnesota Timberwolves have officially announced that they will retire Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett’s number 21 jersey. The ceremony is scheduled for February 28, 2027, following a home game at the Target Center against the Boston Celtics.

Garnett, the franchise’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks, will become only the second player in the team’s 37-year history to have his number retired, following the late Malik Sealy. The decision comes after a period of reconciliation between Garnett and the organization. Following a long-standing rift with former owner Glen Taylor, Garnett has since reconnected with the team under new ownership by Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, recently serving as a team ambassador.

The jersey retirement will serve as the centerpiece of a season-long celebration honoring Garnett’s impact on the franchise, the state of Minnesota, and basketball fans. Garnett, who won the NBA MVP award in the 2003-04 season, led the Timberwolves to the Western Conference Finals during that campaign.
