Kevin Hassett held up to $5 million in Coinbase shares

Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council, held between $1 million and $5 million in Coinbase shares at the end of 2025, according to a previously unreported annual financial disclosure. Hassett, who served as an advisor to Coinbase from 2021 until January 2025, had not fully divested from the company nearly 11 months into the second Trump administration.

During this period, the Trump administration has been actively reshaping federal cryptocurrency policy. This includes the creation of the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets within the NEC, which proposed sweeping regulatory changes regarding digital assets, banking, stablecoins, and taxation. The administration has also moved to reverse previous policies and establish a government bitcoin reserve.

Hassett stated that he has recused himself from any matters related to cryptocurrency while ethics officials reviewed his investment. He previously noted that he had not sold the shares to avoid the appearance of timing a sale and was following guidance from ethics officials. The White House has not commented on whether Hassett still holds the shares or if the investment has impacted his ability to perform his official duties.
