Kevin Kampl discusses personal impact of family deaths
Former professional footballer Kevin Kampl has spoken about how recent personal tragedies have fundamentally changed his outlook on life. During an appearance on Sky 90, the 36-year-old Slovenian athlete shared that the deaths of his brother and father within a few months have made him a more composed person.
Kampl's brother passed away suddenly in October 2025, an event that prompted the player to terminate his contract with RB Leipzig. His father subsequently died a few months later after a serious illness. Kampl stated that these events led him to prioritize his family and realize that football has become a secondary concern in his life.
Born and raised in Solingen, Germany, Kampl explained that he decided to return home in December to support his mother, who has been deeply affected by the losses. He noted that the experience has taught him to focus only on what is truly important and to make the most of the time available.
