Kevin Álvarez finds new footing at Club América under Guillermo Almada
Mexican defender Kevin Álvarez said his recent spell at Club América was marked by limited minutes, injuries and heavy criticism during André Jardine’s tenure. He described the period as “very difficult” and personal, noting that the public did not understand what he was experiencing.
Since the arrival of Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada, Álvarez feels more comfortable with a four‑defender system and a role on the left flank. He believes the new intensity and pressure will help him regain confidence, improve his physical condition and showcase the qualities that once made him a top prospect. Álvarez also reiterated his ambition to return to Europe, while acknowledging competition for the left‑back spot from teammates such as Cristian Borja and Dagoberto Espinosa.
