Kevin Lychwick sentenced to life for killing and hiding neighbor's body

Kevin Lychwick, 64, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the first-degree intentional homicide of his neighbor, Carlos Maldonado. Lychwick also received 12.5 years for hiding a corpse.

According to prosecutors, Lychwick ambushed the 56-year-old Maldonado in April 2024 near their apartment building in Waukesha, Wisconsin, shooting him twice. Maldonado’s body was not discovered until October 2024, when it was found wrapped in a plastic tarp with his hands bound by duct tape in a nearby wooded area.

During the trial, Lychwick acted as his own attorney. Evidence presented included surveillance footage of Lychwick in the area at the time of the killing, as well as a gravel shovel wrapped in duct tape and ammunition found in his vehicle. During the sentencing, Judge David Maas described Lychwick’s courtroom outbursts as the “fantasies and the ravings of a narcissist.”
