Kevin Magnussen crashes out of Petit Le Mans after collision

Kevin Magnussen was forced to retire from the Petit Le Mans season finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta following a high-speed collision. Driving the No. 25 BMW M Hybrid V8 for Team WRT, Magnussen collided with the rear of Alex Palou’s No. 93 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 at Turn 3.

The impact, which occurred as Palou was on an out lap using slick tires on a drying track, caused Magnussen’s car to catch air and slam into the barriers. Magnussen was able to exit the vehicle under his own power and was cleared by medical staff following an evaluation at the trackside medical center.

While Palou sustained rear-end damage, he initially remained on track. The incident occurred amidst a chaotic period for Meyer Shank Racing, following a separate collision between their own teammates, Renger van der Zande and Colin Braun, which resulted in a drive-through penalty for van der Zande. The race also faced a 30-minute red flag period due to lightning in the area.
