Kevin Pearsall's arraignment postponed in California lifeguard filming case

A former California state parks superintendent, Kevin Pearsall, has had his arraignment delayed until Sept. 21 after being charged with secretly recording naked lifeguards in the men’s locker room at Bolsa Chica State Beach. Prosecutors allege five felony counts of eavesdropping, 23 misdemeanor counts of secret filming and three misdemeanor counts of unlawful dissemination of private recordings, affecting 23 lifeguards and other staff, some of whom were minors.

Victims and witnesses described feelings of betrayal, anxiety and anger, fearing the videos may have been shared online or on the dark web. Newport Beach attorney Mark Peacock, representing seven of the lifeguards, said his clients remain on edge about the potential spread of the recordings. The case is being pursued by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
