Kevin Pietersen appointed as England white-ball specialist mentor

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as a specialist mentor for the England men's white-ball teams. The role, announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), is intended to support the squad in their preparations for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Pietersen will join head coach Brendon McCullum and the existing coaching staff, which includes Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, and Sarah Taylor. His involvement begins with the upcoming series against Sri Lanka and will extend through winter tours in Australia and South Africa, as well as home series against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Pietersen's appointment marks his return to the England setup for the first time since 2014. Given his upbringing in South Africa, officials expect his knowledge of regional playing conditions to be particularly valuable for the upcoming World Cup.
