Kevin Pérez Paredes sentenced to 33 years for murder in Chicago

Kevin Pérez Paredes, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national, has been sentenced to 33 years in prison following a guilty plea for the first-degree murder of 25-year-old Crismer Nieves in Chicago, Illinois.

On August 26, Cook County Judge Ursula Walowski issued the sentence as part of a plea agreement between the defense and prosecutors. Under Illinois law, Pérez Paredes is required to serve 100% of the sentence without the possibility of reduction.

Prosecutors stated that the victim was unarmed and pleading for her life on the ground when Pérez Paredes exited a vehicle and shot her multiple times in the head and arm. While witnesses failed to identify the defendant during photo lineups, investigators used security footage from a service station to locate the vehicle used in the attack. Evidence included text messages found on the defendant's cellphone in which he allegedly admitted to committing the homicide.
