Kevin Vermaerke leads solo breakaway in Vuelta a España Stage 14

During the 14th stage of the Vuelta a España, American cyclist Kevin Vermaerke launched a solo breakaway, building a significant lead over the chasing group. Vermaerke successfully secured the intermediate sprint at Castillo de Locubín, maintaining a gap of approximately 1 minute and 22 seconds over his pursuers as the race approached the Puerto de Locubín.

In the mountains, Colombian rider Santiago Buitrago collected five points at the first summit, leading the climb in the absence of Wout van Aert. The race saw several notable developments, including Wout van Aert, Yevgeniy Fedorov, and Alessandro Covino losing contact with the main peloton on the ramps of Locubín. Meanwhile, the Movistar Team, led by Carlos Canal, worked to control the peloton, which trailed the leaders by over seven minutes.

The stage also recorded two abandonments: Oliver Peace of Team Picnic-PostNL and Jordan Labrosse of Decathlon CMA CGM.
