Kevin Wells charged with homicide in fatal New Jersey boating crash

Kevin Wells, 40, has been arrested and charged with reckless vessel homicide following a fatal boating accident near Toms River, New Jersey. On July 25, Wells allegedly operated a 32-foot Boston Whaler while intoxicated, striking a channel marker. The collision killed 26-year-old passenger Michael T. Bereheiko and seriously injured two 27-year-old men, while a 24-year-old woman also sustained minor injuries.

Wells faces additional charges of two counts of assault by vessel while intoxicated or refusing a blood alcohol test. He is expected to appear in Ocean County Court for a hearing.

This incident marks the third fatal boating crash involving alleged intoxication along the Jersey Shore this summer. Previous incidents include the death of Gunnar Pearson, 28, following a Memorial Day crash involving Jennifer Pearson, 59, and a July 19 crash on Barnegat Bay that killed two grandchildren of Stephen Schneider, 64.
