Kew Gardens 50p coin sells for over 374 times its face value

A rare 50p coin commemorating the 250th anniversary of Kew Gardens has sold for £187 on eBay, representing more than 374 times its face value. The coin, released by The Royal Mint in 2009, features the Chinese Pagoda tower located within the botanical gardens.

Approximately 210,000 copies of the 2009 edition were produced. While the design was reissued in 2019, the original version is distinguishable by the image of Queen Elizabeth II used at the time. Collectors often value these heptagonal coins based on mintage numbers, physical condition, and design errors.
