Kewon White appeals Mo3 murder conviction
Kewon White, convicted of capital murder in the 2020 killing of Dallas rapper Mo3 (Melvin Nobles), has filed a notice of appeal. White cited an inability to afford the official trial transcript as part of the filing.
His appellate attorneys, Grace Shin and Niles Illich of the firm Illich & Shin, will review the trial records once the transcript is available, which is expected in January. The legal team aims to identify reversible errors that could lead to a new trial or a reduced sentence. An appeal is a request for a legal review of the trial process rather than a new trial itself.
In 2020, Melvin Nobles was shot 11 times on Interstate 35. Prosecutors alleged the shooting was a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by another rapper, Yella Beezy (Markies Conway). The appellate process could take between 12 to 18 months before reaching the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
