KeyKey open-source input method released for cross-platform use
KeyKey, a new free and open-source input method, has been released as a successor to the discontinued Yahoo! KeyKey and the traditional Bopomofo input methods. Developed using the original Yahoo! KeyKey open-source code, the software aims to preserve the specific typing feel and muscle memory for users accustomed to those legacy systems.
KeyKey is a cross-platform solution supporting macOS (version 15 and above), Windows (Windows 11 x64), Linux (Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS), iOS, and Android. It features traditional Bopomofo character grouping, candidate windows, and associative word functions. It also supports Cangjie and Easy input methods.
The developer noted that the project is not an official Yahoo product. While it includes a dictionary based on McBopomofo and 29 themed associative word sets, it currently lacks smart predictive text for full sentences due to the absence of specific linguistic corpus licenses. The source code is available on GitHub.
