KFC promotion sparks controversy in Modena
A promotional campaign by KFC at the Modena Nerd convention has sparked controversy in Italy. The 'KFC Tattoo Experience' offers participants a lifetime supply of fried chicken—provided every ten days—in exchange for a permanent tattoo of the company logo.
Federconsumatori Modena has called on the Municipality of Modena and the local health authority (Azienda USL) to block the initiative, describing it as an 'unfair exchange between fried chicken and advertising tattoos.' The consumer group also expressed concerns regarding hygiene and sanitary protocols, particularly given the fair's large audience of children and teenagers. They have requested that the brand be removed from the event's program.
In response, the Municipality of Modena stated that the procedures for this year's event are regular, noting that the participating tattoo artists have submitted the necessary certified documentation (SCIA) to operate. Regarding the previous year's promotion, officials clarified that no formal communication was received by the administration at that time, though they noted that previous checks did not reveal a lack of documentation.
