KFOR on high alert in Kosovo ahead of Hague verdict

KFOR has stated it remains fully prepared to respond to all possible situations in Kosovo ahead of the September 16 verdict in The Hague regarding former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Redžep Selimi.

While describing the current security situation as stable, the international peacekeeping force emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe environment and freedom of movement in coordination with the Kosovo Police and EULEX. KFOR noted it does not comment on specific judicial proceedings but maintains a vigilant and flexible presence throughout the region.

Concerns regarding potential unrest follow statements from Hisni Gucati, head of the KLA War Veterans Organization, who indicated that large-scale protests could occur if the verdict is unfavorable. Additionally, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has expressed concerns regarding the safety of the Serbian population in Kosovo. KFOR confirmed it is in contact with all communities, including the Serbian community, to monitor the situation.
