KfW IPEX-Bank funds EUROGATE autonomous terminal pilot

KfW IPEX-Bank is providing an 82 million euro loan to terminal operator EUROGATE to fund a pilot project for digital and autonomous terminal infrastructure in Wilhelmshaven, Germany.

The project focuses on developing and verifying automation and digitalization solutions to make container handling more flexible and efficient. Key technical components include the use of autonomous terminal trucks (ATTs) to move containers between quays and automated stacking cranes (ASCs). The initiative also aims to reduce fossil fuel consumption through the electrification of container handling processes.

Results from the Wilhelmshaven pilot will determine the readiness for a broader rollout, which is planned to begin in Hamburg and eventually extend to all EUROGATE locations in Germany.
