KG Inicis launches digital token payment infrastructure in South Korea
KG Inicis attended the launch ceremony of the “Deposit Token Payment Infrastructure Expansion Project” organized by the Korea Internet & Security Agency. The company will integrate the Bank of Korea’s central‑bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot, Project Hangang Phase 2, by building an API that links its payment gateway to the “Han River” system. This will enable merchants to accept the deposit token (예금토큰) using their existing payment systems, greatly increasing consumer convenience and enhancing transparency in government fund disbursement.
Major Korean banks, including KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Woori and others, are preparing real‑world tests that connect card and payment‑gateway networks to KG Inicis’ platform. The plan is to allow users to pay with the deposit token via bank apps, while card issuers and PG firms handle transaction approval and settlement. Pilots aim for the end of the year, with use cases ranging from vouchers and subsidies to everyday retail purchases. KG Inicis officials said, “We will lead the new deposit‑token payment ecosystem and help advance the nation’s digital finance infrastructure.”
