KGHM and BHP sign letter of intent for global copper cooperation

KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. and BHP World Exploration Inc. have signed a letter of intent to establish a framework for cooperation in the global copper market. The agreement focuses on technological exchange, engineering knowledge sharing, and the optimization of production processes. The dialogue will cover exploration projects, development-stage ventures, and operational activities worldwide.

Key areas of collaboration include modernizing production lines, automation, and improving safety standards. The partnership builds upon existing cooperation in South America, specifically regarding the Sierra Gorda mine in Chile. KGHM is preparing to invest $725 million starting in July 2026 to develop a fourth production line at Sierra Gorda, aiming to increase processing capacity from 48 million to 60 million tons of ore annually.

KGHM leadership and Polish government officials noted that the agreement signals the company's strengthening position in the global raw materials sector and provides a platform for sharing operational expertise and technical competencies.
