KGHM expands global mining footprint through BHP partnership and Argentine interests

KGHM is expanding its international mining footprint through strategic partnerships and potential acquisitions. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with BHP, the world’s largest mining corporation, to foster technology exchange and collaborative projects. This cooperation is particularly relevant for KGHM’s Sierra Gorda mine in Chile, where a new production line is being implemented that could offer synergies with the neighboring Spence mine owned by BHP.

Additionally, KGHM is reportedly exploring expansion in Argentina. While the company is currently engaged in a confidential exclusive acquisition process, local reports suggest interest in the Los Azules copper project in the San Juan province. The Los Azules project is a significant undeveloped copper deposit with an estimated 21-year lifespan and an initial investment requirement of approximately $3.17 billion.
