KGHM to develop Poland’s first polyhalite mine near Puck

KGHM is preparing a project to build Poland’s first polyhalite mine near the Puck Bay, utilizing the ‘Mieroszyno’ deposit located approximately 10 km west of Władysławowo. The deposit is estimated to contain over 300 million tons of polyhalite, a rare mineral used in fertilizer production due to its high content of potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sulfur, and its low chloride levels.

The ‘PUCK’ project involves a deep-shaft mine with two shafts reaching depths of 750 to 800 meters. KGHM aims to extract approximately 3 million tons annually, which could sustain operations for about 50 years. The company has signed a letter of intent with the Pomeranian Voivodeship to cooperate on the project’s preparation.

KGHM President Remigiusz Paszkiewicz stated that the company is moving into the phase of obtaining mining concessions. Deputy Minister of State Assets Grzegorz Wrona noted that the project requires further technical, environmental, spatial, and social consultations, including discussions with local residents. The mine is expected to become operational in approximately 15 years.
