KGM and Chery partner on new vehicle technology and global growth
KGM (formerly SsangYong) and the Chinese automaker Chery have entered into an expanded investment and development agreement. Chery is investing 75 million dollars into KGM to accelerate the development of new vehicle lineups and strengthen international growth, specifically targeting European and Norwegian markets.
The collaboration focuses on advanced technologies, including electric drivetrains, autonomous driving, software-defined vehicles (SDV), and shared global platforms. A primary outcome of this partnership is the SE10 project, a D+ segment SUV designed to succeed the Rexton. The SE10 is expected to be available in plug-in hybrid and 2.0-liter gasoline versions, with a planned launch in early 2027.
Beyond automotive manufacturing, the two companies intend to explore cooperation in robotics, semiconductors, and joint investments in production centers. The agreement aims to integrate European safety and technological standards into the vehicle design process from the earliest stages.
