KGM Torres EVX sold without advertised centre airbag

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has issued a consumer alert regarding the KGM Torres EVX electric SUV, which was supplied to customers in Australia and New Zealand without an advertised centre airbag.

Approximately 100 vehicles are affected. In New Zealand, roughly 70 units were sold between March 2024 and March 2025. In Australia, approximately 33 vehicles have been sold since October 2025. While KGM marketed the vehicle as having eight airbags, including a “front row far-side” or “front seat centre airbag” designed to reduce injuries during side-impact crashes, the supplied models are fitted with only seven.

This follows a similar issue identified with the KGM Musso EV in Australia, which was advertised with eight airbags but fitted with six. ANCAP is encouraging KGM to implement a production change to include the centre airbag. KGM Australia has updated its marketing materials to reflect the actual specifications. Petrol and hybrid versions of the Torres are not believed to be affected. Existing owners are advised to contact KGM or their local dealer if they have safety concerns.
