Khabar Agency applies for full EBU membership to join Eurovision 2027
Khabar Agency, a major media organization in Kazakhstan, has applied for full membership in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) with the goal of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
Khabar Agency has been an associate member of the EBU since 2016 and has previously participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest on an invitation basis. The move toward full membership is reportedly supported by the Kazakh Ministry of Information and Culture. While the Ministry has noted that participation would require significant financial investment not currently accounted for in the budget, discussions regarding Kazakhstan's involvement have been ongoing.
Kemelbek Oishybayev, chairman of the Khabar Agency board, attended the EBU General Assembly in London in 2025 to discuss the matter with EBU Director General Noel Curran. The EBU has not yet commented on the application or confirmed if Kazakhstan will be permitted to compete in the 2027 contest.
