Khalid Ahmed Satary arrested in $547 million Medicare fraud case

Khalid Ahmed Satary, a 54‑year‑old foreign national, was captured in the Middle East on July 20, 2026 and returned to the United States to face federal charges. Satary was indicted in 2019 in the Eastern District of Louisiana for a scheme that between 2016 and 2019 fraudulently billed Medicare more than $547 million for unnecessary genetic cancer tests. Prosecutors say he operated a network of diagnostic laboratories in Louisiana, Oklahoma and Georgia, using telemarketing, patient recruiters and telemedicine physicians to generate test orders, while paying illegal kickbacks and bribes to doctors and recruiters.

The FBI announced the arrest as the third capture from its newly created “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list in five weeks. FBI Director Kash Patel praised the international cooperation that led to the seizure and noted that 16 bank accounts and real‑estate assets tied to the scheme were frozen. Satary now faces charges of health‑care fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy, illegal kickbacks, and money‑laundering, with a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
