Khalid Aucho retires from Uganda Cranes international football

Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho has announced his retirement from international football, concluding a 13-year career. The 33-year-old midfielder earned 77 caps and led the national team, having been appointed captain in October 2021.

In an official statement released on Monday, October 12, Aucho reflected on his journey, which began with his international debut on November 30, 2013, against Rwanda. He highlighted representing Uganda at three Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments as a career milestone, specifically noting the team's return to the AFCON finals in 2017 after a 38-year absence.

Aucho expressed gratitude to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), his coaches, teammates, and supporters. He specifically credited the late former coach Fred Kajoba for his guidance and recalled his humble beginnings working at the Bugembe market in Jinja as the foundation for his professional ambitions.
