Sean Strickland threatens to vacate UFC title over pay dispute

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has threatened to vacate his title and leave the promotion due to an ongoing dispute regarding fighter pay. Strickland expressed frustration on social media, comparing his potential earnings to the massive payouts received by stars like Conor McGregor and boxer Conor Benn.

Strickland indicated he is considering moving up to the light heavyweight division (205 lbs) to fulfill his contract more quickly, with the ultimate goal of pursuing a high-profile boxing match against Jake Paul. Paul has responded to the comments by inviting Strickland to contact his Most Valuable Promotions to arrange a bout.

The dispute has stalled a scheduled title defense against top contender Nassourdine Imavov. While Imavov reportedly offered $500,000 of his own funds to finalize a January matchup, negotiations remain stuck. In response to the stalemate, former champion Khamzat Chimaev has offered Strickland $1 million to fight him instead.

Former champion Dricus du Plessis has weighed in, predicting that Strickland will successfully defend his belt against Imavov despite the current contractual uncertainty.
