Khan Bahadur Bhavha Hospital in Mumbai shuts OPD for one day amid doctors' protest

On Thursday, 6 August, the routine outpatient department (OPD) at Khan Bahadur Bhavha Hospital in Kurla West, Mumbai, was closed. The shutdown was carried out by the hospital staff in support of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), which is protesting a proposed Maharashtra Medical Council rule that would grant registration to CCM‑P qualified BHMS practitioners.

The hospital said that all emergency and essential services – including casualty, intensive care, labour rooms, operation theatres and care for admitted patients – will continue uninterrupted. Only the routine OPD services are suspended for the day. MARD warned that further actions could follow if the government does not address the doctors’ concerns about the integrity of the medical registration system and patient safety.
