Khanh Hoa prepares for potential historic floods with mass evacuation plan

Khanh Hoa Province has approved an updated disaster response plan for 2026 to prepare for potential historic flooding. The plan outlines various scenarios based on rainfall levels, with the most severe scenario involving the potential evacuation of up to 101,811 people across 26,890 households.

The decision follows devastating weather in 2025, where storms and heavy rains caused 22 deaths, 20 injuries, and significant infrastructure damage totaling approximately 6,018 billion VND. Authorities are preparing for scenarios where rainfall reaches 200-500mm within 24 hours, which could cause river levels to exceed alarm level 3 by more than one meter.
