Khanh Hoa province modernizes fisheries for sustainable growth

The south-central Vietnamese province of Khanh Hoa is restructuring its fisheries sector to focus on modern, green, and sustainable development. This initiative aligns with the Party Central Committee’s Resolution 20-NQ/TW, which aims to establish Vietnam as a strong maritime nation.

Khanh Hoa possesses approximately 490 kilometers of coastline, including sheltered bays such as Van Phong, Nha Trang, and Cam Ranh, along with over 200 islands. The province utilizes its deep-water ports and logistics infrastructure to support an integrated system of capture fishing, aquaculture, breed production, and seafood processing.

In 2025, the province’s total seafood output exceeded 274,472 tonnes, marking a 1.77% increase from the previous year. Within this total, aquaculture output grew by 7.62% to over 36,156 tonnes. Seafood exports reached 391.1 million USD in the first half of the year, representing 32.88% of the province’s total export turnover.

To achieve long-term goals, the province has identified high-tech, industrial-scale marine farming as a strategic breakthrough. The regional strategy targets an average annual growth of 8% in marine aquaculture value by 2030, with marine farming intended to account for 15% of the total fisheries production value.
