Khanh Hoa residents risk lives crossing river after bridge destruction

Nearly one year after a historic flood destroyed three civilian suspension bridges in Nam Khanh Vinh commune, Khanh Hoa province, local residents continue to face dangerous conditions to access their farmland.

To transport agricultural products and reach cultivation plots, hundreds of people must risk crossing the Khanh Le River. During periods of low water, residents wade through the river or use motorcycles, but rising water levels during forest rains pose a significant threat to life.

In response to the lack of permanent infrastructure, some community members have established temporary crossings using wooden structures, barrels, and small boats. These makeshift solutions require residents to navigate via tensioned ropes to ferry people and tools across the current.
