Khao Yai National Park driver criticized for speeding near elephants

A driver is facing intense public criticism after reportedly speeding past two wild elephants in Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park on September 19. The incident involved a father elephant, Pho Ngathong, and his calf, Tonkla, as they were crossing a road.

According to reports, the startled calf ran toward the roadside and nearly collided with its father due to the vehicle's speed. Kanchana Silpa-archa, leader of the Chart Thai Pattana Party, has called for decisive disciplinary action against the driver. She identified the individual as a retired park official, allegedly a former assistant chief, who has reportedly received previous warnings for poor behavior.

Kanchana urged the chief of Khao Yai National Park to handle the matter firmly, warning that failure to take action could result in significant public backlash.
