||Kharas Governor calls for local benefits from resource projects

Dawid Gertze, the Governor of the ||Kharas region, has called for companies involved in resource exploration and upcoming energy transmission projects to prioritize local residents. Gertze emphasized that these industries should provide meaningful contributions to alleviate poverty, specifically through employment and vocational training to prepare the local youth for future industrial roles.

During a town hall meeting, Gertze also addressed the issue of tribalism and ethnic divisions, warning that focusing on racial or ethnic interests hinders socio-economic development. He urged the community to unite to solve developmental challenges rather than being held back by deep-seated divisions.

Residents at the meeting raised several local concerns, including the need for 24-hour banking services, improved road infrastructure, reliable mobile network coverage, and better water supply management. Proposals were also discussed regarding local food production and meat supply benefits for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency.
