Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers reject government response
The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) has rejected a government response to its list of demands, warning of potential new protests. The association described the Education Department’s reply as disappointing, accusing officials of “indifference and gentle blackmail.”
Key points of contention include the government’s handling of the Board of Trustees and delays in accounting for funds in the Central account, which the association characterized as “nothing but a case of cheating.” The KJDSTA also criticized the management of retirement benefits, stating that teachers are being forced to withdraw accumulations from the Central SBI pension account without interest due to financial necessity.
The association noted that the government’s letter failed to address core demands, specifically the completion of the Centralised Provident Fund Scheme for those appointed before April 2010 and the New Defined Contribution Pension Scheme. While the government provided assurances that deficit posts will not be abolished, the KJDSTA maintains that related orders must be withdrawn to resolve the issue.
