Khasi Students' Union seals mosque, demands stricter anti‑influx law in Meghalaya

The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) sealed a mosque on 4th Furlong in Shillong, alleging the building was constructed without required approvals or land documents. The action, led by Central Executive Committee organising secretary Cleenstar Shabong, was carried out on the 191st death anniversary of Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem.

On the same day, KSU president Raymond Kharjana renewed the union’s call for a stringent anti‑influx law, urging the Meghalaya government to implement an effective Inner Line Permit (ILP) mechanism. He warned that unchecked entry of outsiders could reduce the Khasi community to a minority in its own state, and appealed for broader community support to protect indigenous identity and rights.
