Court of Arbitration for Sport to rule on Senegal-Morocco AFCON dispute

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced that its final ruling regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title dispute is expected by the end of November 2026. The decision follows a closed-door hearing held on October 8 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The dispute stems from the controversial AFCON final held in Rabat on January 18, 2026. While Senegal initially won the match 1-0 after extra time, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board later overturned the result on March 17, 2026. The board awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory by forfeit, citing that Senegalese players had abandoned the pitch in protest against a penalty decision during regulation time.

Senegal is appealing this decision, seeking to have the original result reinstated. The CAS panel has opted to issue a complete award, known as a “CAS Award,” which will include the full legal reasoning behind the verdict. Until the ruling is released, the CAF decision remains in effect, maintaining Morocco as the official champions.
