Kherson authorities urge evacuation amid Russian infrastructure strikes
Authorities in Kherson, Ukraine, have issued an urgent plea for residents to evacuate the city due to intensifying Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin specifically urged families with children and the elderly to leave if possible, citing an ‘extremely difficult security situation.’
Recent Russian strikes, including the use of glide bombs, have caused severe damage to the city's heating station. Officials warn that the city faces a significant risk of being left without electricity and heating for an extended period, potentially lasting much longer than just hours or days.
Prokudin noted that Russian forces have escalated their use of aerial drones and guided bombs in the region. He stated that Ukraine currently lacks the defensive means to intercept these specific types of weapons in any region of the country.
