Khiamniungan Students’ Union ends Noklak road protest

The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) has ended its agitation and reopened the Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges) Executive Engineer’s Office in Noklak. The decision follows a joint meeting between the KSU, the PWD, and contractor M/s Naagaamii Infra Tech Pvt. Ltd. regarding the status of several key road projects.

A central point of contention was the mention of land compensation as a reason for project closures during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly session. The KSU clarified that the Khiamniungan community had never demanded land compensation for these developments. The contractor issued an apology for citing compensation issues when requesting project extensions, which the union accepted.

To address connectivity needs, the department noted that a proposal to improve the Peshu–Thonoknyu road has been submitted to the State Government under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme for 2026–27. The PWD assured the union that it would work with the state government to address the concerns of the Noklak district residents.
