||Khomanin Traditional Community disputes with Minister Sankwasa

The ||Khomanin Traditional Community is seeking legal counsel following a dispute with Namibia’s Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, over the handling of leadership and financial grievances.

Community spokesperson Shaun Gariseb accused the minister of neglecting concerns regarding a petition to remove chief Julien Gawanas and failing to provide updates on audit reports concerning the community’s finances over the last 15 years. During a meeting at the ministry’s chambers, Gariseb claimed the minister failed to engage with the community’s submitted documentation and criticized his inconsistent approach to different traditional authorities.

Minister Sankwasa defended his position by citing statutory procedures, stating that leadership disputes must be processed through regional governor offices before reaching the Cabinet. He also maintained that while Auditor General reports are public, internal audit reports are confidential for administrative purposes and not for public consumption.
