Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim promoted to Admiral of Bangladesh Navy

Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim has been promoted to the rank of Admiral as the Chief of Bangladesh Navy. The announcement was made by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday morning.

According to a notification from the Ministry of Defence, Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim has been appointed to lead the Bangladesh Navy for a three-year term, effective until July 22, 2029. He officially assumed the role of Navy Chief on July 23.

Admiral Azim joined the Bangladesh Navy on January 1, 1987, and received his commission in the executive branch in 1989. His career includes training with the Royal Malaysian Navy and earning a PhD in Maritime Governance. He has held several high-level positions, including Commander of the Chittagong Naval Area, Commander of the Dhaka Naval Area, Commander of Submarines, and Commandant of the Bangladesh Naval Academy. Additionally, he served as Director of Naval Operations and Director of Naval Planning at Naval Headquarters.

His professional background also includes serving in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Most recently, he served as the Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman. Throughout his nearly 40-year career, he has received various honors, including the Navy Medal (NBP), the Naval Proficiency Medal (NPP), and the National Integrity Award.
