Khyber Aquaculture and J&K Government launch trout farming modernization program
Khyber Aquaculture has partnered with the Jammu & Kashmir Department of Fisheries to launch a specialized training program aimed at modernizing trout farming in the region. The initiative is part of the Project No 22 Implementation of Trout Cluster Programme, operating under the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP) in the Ganderbal and Anantnag areas.
The program provides progressive farmers from Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Srinagar with training in sustainable aquaculture and fish health management. Key modules include biosecurity, water-quality management, early disease detection, and the use of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). The training emphasizes proactive prevention through routine water monitoring and stress reduction to improve survival rates and farm efficiency.
Umar Tramboo, CMD of Khyber Aquaculture, stated that capacity building is essential for a resilient trout sector. The initiative seeks to leverage Jammu & Kashmir’s natural mountain conditions to establish the region as a hub for cold-water trout production, supporting rural livelihoods and food security.
